Residents of Birchandranagar Gram Panchayat, situated under the Kailashahar Police Station, staged a road blockade today, protesting a four-day electricity outage that has significantly disrupted their daily lives. Despite numerous complaints to Sai Computer Limited, the private power company serving the area, there has been no resolution, prompting locals to take action.
The extended blackout has led to a severe drinking water shortage, compounding the frustration among residents. Early in the morning, locals gathered to block a major road, drawing attention to their grievances. As tensions escalated, traffic came to a halt on both sides of the blockade, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
“We have been pleading for the restoration of electricity for days, but our cries have gone unheard,” said one frustrated resident participating in the protest. “Without power, we can’t even access clean water. How are we supposed to survive?” he questioned.
The demonstration quickly drew the attention of local officials. The head of the Gram Panchayat and the deputy head arrived to engage with the protesters. After listening to the residents’ concerns, they promised that the issue would be addressed urgently.
“We understand the gravity of the situation and assure the residents that we will take this matter up with the relevant authorities immediately,” stated the Gram Panchayat Pradhan.
After receiving these assurances, the residents dispersed, reopening the road and allowing traffic to flow again. However, they remain watchful, warning that if prompt action is not taken, more vigorous protests may occur.
Authorities are expected to collaborate with Sai Computer Limited to resolve the situation and prevent future disruptions in the area.
