Manipur Police Capture Eight Insurgents with Major Weapons Cache
Manipur police and security forces carried out significant operations on May 14 and 15, leading to the arrest of eight militants linked to various insurgent groups across multiple districts. On May 15, one of the most notable apprehensions was that of Laishram Nanao Singh, a 39-year-old active member of PREPAK (Pro). He was detained near a brick field in Heirok, located in Thoubal District. This operation uncovered an impressive weapons cache, which included a .303 rifle, four modified single bore action rifles, 54 rounds of .303 ammunition, and a hand grenade.
Additional military equipment was found in Singh’s possession, including bulletproof plates, camouflage clothing, bulletproof jackets, and various magazines designed for automatic weapons. Authorities also seized a four-wheeler and a mobile device during the operation.
On the same day, security forces executed separate operations in Imphal East District, arresting two members of UNLF (Koireng). The suspects, identified as Loushigam Loveboy Singh and Laishram Diamond Singh, were found carrying a .32 pistol and ammunition.
Three other insurgents were apprehended in individual operations across Thoubal and Imphal districts. Among these was Khundrakpam Brojen Singh, a 53-year-old member of KCP (PWG), who is believed to have been involved in extortion activities targeting educational institutions in the region.
The prior day, May 14, police arrested two active members of UPPK from Koirengei Bazar, who were allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public in Imphal. These coordinated efforts highlight ongoing measures by authorities to combat insurgency and criminal activities affecting local communities.
