The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Manipur unit has resolutely dismissed rumors that some of its MLAs are contemplating a defection to Congress to establish a new government. In a statement released on Thursday, the party asserted that all its legislators remain united and dedicated to the party’s cause.
This announcement comes in the wake of rampant speculation on social media and local news reports that hinted at possible internal divisions and defections. Such rumors have contributed to rising political tensions in Manipur, a state currently under President’s Rule since February 13.
Labeling these reports as “baseless,” the BJP made it clear that its MLAs harbor no intent to ally with the opposition. The party emphasized in its statement, “All legislators of the BJP stand with the party and will continue to do so in the future.”
Furthermore, the BJP urged both the public and the media to exercise responsibility, cautioning against the dissemination of misinformation during what it described as a “sensitive period” for Manipur.
