Ashes of Ares Ignite with “New Messiahs”

Buckle up, metalheads! The powerhouse duo Ashes of Ares, featuring the illustrious former Iced Earth members Matt Barlow and Freddie Vidales, is back and in fine form. Their upcoming studio album, "New Messiahs," is poised to erupt onto the scene in Europe on July 18 and North America on August 8, 2025, through the titillating label ROAR!

The album’s first single, “Wake Of Vultures,” is a haunting cautionary tale that embodies the precarious dance of misery and companionship. Barlow muses, “Once you entangle yourself with a brood of wretched souls, you’re either the vulture or the delectable piece of meat they devour.” A provocative sentiment, indeed!

Since their inception in 2012, the powerhouse trio—initially joined by the former Nevermore drummer Van Williams—has been on an electrifying trajectory. After Van’s departure in 2017, Matt and Freddie soldiered on, crafting captivating tunes and enthralling audiences across continents. Their first self-titled album hit the scene in 2013, while 2018’s "Well Of Souls" showcased an ever-expanding sound. The duo’s dynamic partnership peaked with their 2022 release, "Emperors And Fools," marking a thrilling turning point in their artistry.

Now, with "New Messiahs," they promise a collection of 12 fiery tracks that capture their relentless pursuit of musical distinction. The blistering title track, along with standouts like "Two Graves" and, of course, “Wake Of Vultures,” embodies both emotional fervor and sharp songwriting—a clear reflection of their artistic journey.

Even the guest features are a tantalizing treat! Kyle Taylor lays down the drums with flair, while notable appearances from Charlie Honig, Craig Blackwell, and Todd La Torre of Queensrÿche add a delicious sprinkle of excitement. And let’s not forget the unexpected bonus track—a stunning cover of Elton John’s “And The House Fell Down,” proving they can take any classic and make it unmistakably their own.

As they gear up to honor Iced Earth’s iconic 1996 album "The Dark Saga" during a European tour in September and October 2025, it’s clear that Ashes of Ares isn’t just a blast from the past. They’re crafting a new legacy—one that resonates deeply with devoted fans and metal newcomers alike.

So, prepare for an auditory feast; "New Messiahs" is more than an album—it’s a captivating chapter in the saga of metal.
