Border Schools in Jammu and Kashmir to Reopen: A New Beginning Ahead
The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, announced on Wednesday that schools in select regions along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir are set to reopen on May 15. This decision comes after a temporary closure due to recent hostilities, providing much-needed relief to parents, students, and teachers.
Schools in several districts, including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch, will welcome students back to classrooms. The official announcement outlined the specific zones where schools will reopen: in Jammu district, the zones include Jammu, Gandhi Nagar, Bhalwal, Dansal, and Chowki Choura; in Samba district, the Vijaypur zone; in Kathua district, Barnoti, Lakhanpur, Sallan, and Ghagwal zones; in Rajouri district, Peeri, Kalakote, Thanamandi, Moghla, Kotranka, Khawas, Lower Hathal, and Darhal areas; and in Poonch district, Surankote and Buffliaz zones.
This reopening is part of a broader return to normalcy in the region, following a reduction in cross-border tensions and a recent understanding between India and Pakistan. Officials stated that the reopening of schools is a critical indicator of improved ground conditions and an effort to minimize academic disruptions that students in vulnerable border areas have faced. The decision has been welcomed by the community, highlighting the importance of education in restoring stability and routine in these regions.
