Emergency Alert: Bomb Scare on Mumbai-Bound IndiGo Flight at Kolkata Airport – 26-Year-Old Passenger Detained!

An IndiGo flight heading to Mumbai was diverted to an isolation bay at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport Tuesday afternoon due to a bomb scare involving a passenger. The incident, which raised security alarms, resulted in a delay as airport personnel conducted thorough checks to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

The situation unfolded when a passenger—traveling from Imphal to Mumbai with a stop in Kolkata—reportedly made a statement regarding a bomb during a secondary security procedure known as a step ladder point check. This procedure typically involves airline staff inspecting hand luggage and frisking passengers just before boarding. According to reports, the passenger asked an IndiGo security officer, “Do I have a bomb?” This remark instantly triggered concern among security forces.

Following the alarming statement, security protocols were intensified. “The passenger’s claim was declared specific, security was beefed up, and standard operating procedures (SOP) were implemented,” stated the airport’s Public Relations Officer (PRO). The 26-year-old individual was swiftly detained and handed over to police for further investigation.

Having arrived in Kolkata on an IndiGo flight from Imphal, the passenger was slated to continue to Mumbai on a separate IndiGo aircraft. Of the 186 passengers booked for the leg from Kolkata to Mumbai, 179 had already boarded when the scare occurred. The Indigo flight, originally scheduled to depart at 1:30 PM, experienced delays as the aircraft was vacated and moved to the isolation bay for extensive security checks.

IndiGo promptly issued a statement acknowledging the bomb threat and the subsequent security measures taken. In their announcement, the airline confirmed, “IndiGo flight 6E 5227 operating from Kolkata to Mumbai received a bomb threat prior to departure. In accordance with security protocols, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay at Kolkata airport. All necessary checks were conducted, and the standard operating procedures were followed.”

In light of recent tensions stemming from the ongoing India-Pakistan military conflict, security has been reinforced at airports across the country. This incident underscores the heightened vigilance and rigorous measures now being implemented to ensure passenger safety amid escalating security concerns.

As investigations continue, attention remains focused on the importance of maintaining safety protocols in air travel, emphasizing the collective responsibility of both passengers and airport security personnel in safeguarding public safety.
