Trump Official Warns: NJ Democrats Could Face Explosive Charges!

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka found himself in handcuffs outside Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, on May 9, 2025, following a chaotic confrontation with federal authorities. A day after the incident, the Trump administration suggested that Democratic lawmakers involved could face potential criminal charges. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin provided an update on CNN, stating, “There will likely be more arrests coming.”

She claimed DHS has body camera footage showing members of Congress allegedly attacking ICE officers, including an incident in which a female officer was reportedly body slammed. McLaughlin later tweeted a video from the tumultuous scene, asserting, “We will not tolerate assault against our ICE law enforcement agents, by members of Congress or anyone else.”

Alina Habba, New Jersey’s federal prosecutor, hinted at further legal ramifications in an interview with Fox News, stating, “I’m not going to get into the weeds about other things that may or may not be coming.” The representatives present during the incident—Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and LaMonica McIver—strongly contested the DHS’s portrayal of events. Menendez accused the administration of disseminating “lies and misinformation,” defending their right as lawmakers to oversee DHS facilities without prior notice. “This is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and I am shocked and disturbed that something like this happened in our community,” he said.

Watson Coleman labeled the allegation of her allegedly “body slamming” armed officers as “absurd” in her own post on X, emphasizing, “DHS is lying because they know their agents were out of line.” McLaughlin, however, dismissed the Democratic lawmakers’ actions as a “bizarre political stunt,” insisting that members of Congress cannot illegally enter detention facilities.

According to Watson Coleman, the scuffle began after the lawmakers exited the facility to speak with Mayor Baraka. “We entered the facility, came BACK OUT to speak to the Mayor, and then ICE agents began shoving us,” she explained. Axios first reported that DHS was considering additional arrests, a report that CNBC later confirmed.

Baraka, who is actively campaigning for the governor’s office in New Jersey, was charged with trespassing and released without bond later that Friday. Habba accused him of disregarding multiple warnings from DHS officials to vacate the ICE detention center, stating, “The mayor committed trespass.”

As tensions rise surrounding immigration enforcement across the nation, the incident at Delaney Hall spotlights the contentious relationship between federal authorities and state officials. Both sides continue to grapple with the implications of this clash, underscoring the pressing debates surrounding immigration policy and legislative oversight.

The drama unfolding in Newark echoes broader national discussions, illustrating the often fraught intersection of local governance and federal immigration enforcement. As the situation develops, additional updates regarding potential legal actions against the involved lawmakers and Mayor Baraka are anticipated in the days ahead.
