Kashmir: India’s Strong Stand on PoJK After Op Sindoor
The Director Generals of Military Operations, Naval Operations, and Air Operations held a briefing on May 11, announcing the notable success of Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure deep within Pakistani territory. The operation is currently active, with India emphasizing its position to key international allies: should Pakistan provoke aggression, India will respond with equal or greater force, a stance described by officials as the “new normal.” Military leaders highlighted a significant shift in India’s strategic approach to Pakistan’s provocations, noting that Islamabad’s nuclear threats have effectively been challenged.
In response to inquiries about Kashmir, sources unequivocally stated that India is not open to fresh discussions regarding the region, maintaining that the only unresolved issue is Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Officials made it clear that any communication regarding military actions will remain strictly between the Director Generals of Military Operations of both nations, asserting that “no third country or party will be involved.”
This firm position follows an offer from U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested mediating between India and Pakistan concerning Kashmir. New Delhi has consistently rejected the involvement of third parties, reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India.
During the joint briefing, Director General of Military Operations Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai announced that the Chief of Army Staff has granted the Army full operational freedom to address any further miscalculations by Pakistan. Complementing this, DG Air Operations Air Marshal AK Bharti affirmed that Operation Sindoor has met its strategic objectives. “It is not the role of the armed forces to count casualties,” he stated, emphasizing the mission’s success rather than focusing on numerical outcomes.
