Agartala: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for hot and humid weather expected over the next 48 hours across Tripura, accompanied by a health advisory and forecasts of thunderstorms and lightning over the coming four days. The IMD’s announcement indicates that a blend of partly cloudy skies, high humidity, and intense solar radiation could elevate daytime temperatures to 37°C or more in several regions of the state. In certain areas, temperatures are predicted to remain 3°C to 5°C above the seasonal norms.

The department also reported the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeastern Assam and surrounding areas, which extends up to 3.1 kilometers above mean sea level. According to the statement, very light rainfall was recorded in isolated regions of Tripura, especially in the North district, while the rest of the state remained largely dry. Maximum temperatures have notably increased, remaining significantly above average for this time of year.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning, highlighting the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated locations across the districts of North, Unakoti, Khowai, West, Sepahijala, Gomati, and Dhalai from May 10 to May 14. To mitigate the health risks posed by the heat, the IMD recommends that individuals drink ample amounts of water, even if they do not feel thirsty. It advises wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose, and breathable cotton clothing, and suggests the use of protective eyewear, umbrellas, hats, and suitable footwear when venturing outdoors. Additionally, it encourages using fans, damp clothing, and taking cold baths frequently to stay cool and healthy.

As Tripura braces for this challenging weather, it is crucial for residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health during the hot spells and potential thunderstorms ahead.
