Sikkim CM Mourns Tragic Loss of J&K Official Due to Pakistani Shelling
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed his condolences on May 10 for the tragic death of Raj Kumar Thapa, an official from Jammu and Kashmir, who was killed due to Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control. In a heartfelt message on Facebook, the chief minister honored Thapa, who lost his life when his official residence in Rajouri was struck by cross-border artillery fire from Pakistan.
Tamang conveyed his deep shock and sadness over the untimely loss of the Jammu and Kashmir official. Thapa’s death was part of a broader incident that led to the fatalities of five individuals and left several others injured during intense Pakistani shelling in the Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts early on Saturday, according to reports.
“The late Thapa was a distinguished public servant, renowned for his integrity and unwavering commitment to the community. His passing is a profound loss, not only for his family and colleagues but for the entire Gorkha community and our nation,” stated Tamang. He extended his deepest sympathies to Thapa’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him, offering hopes that they may find strength and comfort during this deeply sorrowful time.
The chief minister condemned the violence, stating, “This unfortunate act is unacceptable. Attacks on civilians and officials are deeply concerning. We stand united in our commitment to peace and justice.”
Thapa served as the additional district development commissioner for Rajouri. His injuries, along with those of two staff members, occurred when an artillery shell detonated at his official residence in Rajouri town. They were immediately transported to the Government Medical College, where Thapa ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared his grief on social media, describing the loss as devastating. “We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district and attended the online meeting I chaired,” Abdullah noted in his post on X, further highlighting Thapa’s recent contributions to the administration.
