New Delhi: The Indian Armed Forces successfully thwarted a significant attempt by the Pakistan military to execute a drone and missile attack targeting multiple military installations in Northern and Western India during the night of May 7-8. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, addressing a press briefing from the Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed the effectiveness of India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems in neutralising the threats. She stated that in retaliation for Pakistan’s aggression, the Indian Armed Forces struck various air defence radars and systems across Pakistan that morning.

Colonel Qureshi emphasized that India’s response matched the intensity of Pakistan’s aggression. “This morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted air defence radars and systems at multiple locations in Pakistan. Reliable intelligence indicates that an Air Defence system in Lahore has been neutralised,” she reported. In reference to the previous day’s press briefing about ‘Operation Sindoor,’ she highlighted that India’s actions were focused, measured, and non-escalatory, clarifying that no Pakistani military establishments were targeted unless provoked.

During the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to engage various military targets in India, including those in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, and other regions using drones and missiles. These attempts were successfully neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems, with debris from the attacks now being recovered, substantiating the Pakistani attempts at aggression.

The backdrop to these events includes a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, prompting the Indian Armed Forces to launch ‘Operation Sindoor.’ This operation consisted of precise strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a direct response to the tragic attack that resulted in 26 casualties. The Indian Ministry of Defence reiterated that their operations were carefully targeted and exhibited considerable restraint regarding the selection of targets and execution methods.

Following the execution of Operation Sindoor, the Union Government convened an all-party meeting to inform political leaders about the developments post-operations. This meeting was held at the Parliament Annexe, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefing members of various political parties on India’s actions against cross-border terrorism.

Among those who participated in the meeting were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, along with other notable leaders. The discussions focused on the implications of the recent military actions and the broader context of cross-border terrorism.

As tensions continue, India’s assertive stance showcases its readiness to protect its sovereignty against external threats while aiming for a restrained approach in military engagements.
