According to the latest Human Development Report from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), for the fourth consecutive year, the disparity between wealthy and impoverished nations has grown. Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, warns that this slowdown could have severe repercussions. “If this sluggish progress becomes the ‘new normal,’ achieving our 2030 goals could be delayed by decades,” he said. Interestingly, people in developing regions are even more optimistic, with 70% expecting AI to boost productivity and two-thirds planning to integrate AI into education, health, and work soon.

Recommendations include modernizing education and health frameworks to meet contemporary demands and promoting economies that encourage human-AI collaboration over competition. Pedro Conceição, Director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office, stated, “The choices we make in the coming years will define the legacy of this technological transition for human development. With the right policies and a people-focused approach, AI can be a bridge to new knowledge and skills.”
