Arunachal Flash Floods: Body Recovered in Keyi Panyor; 3 Missing
Search and rescue operations in flood-hit Keyi Panyor district of Arunachal Pradesh entered their fourth day on June 27, when authorities recovered a woman’s body from the area affected by flash floods while teams continue to search for three missing persons. The recovery was reported in the district administration’s latest monsoon damage update.
The deceased has been identified by local residents as 30-year-old Ballari Marak, also known as Olyn Synkly. Her body was recovered at around 12 noon. Ballari Marak hailed from Bhoirymbong in Lumpshoping under Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya and was the daughter of the late Shangain Syngkli and Willina K. Marak.
Joint search operations by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Keyi Panyor Police are focused on the NEEPCO Colony area, where flash flooding struck. Authorities said they are continuing efforts to trace the three people still unaccounted for: 13-year-old Elesh Marak, 46-year-old Tao Anjina, and Sourav Kumar.
The floods and associated landslides have severely disrupted road connectivity across the district. The Potin–Kimin Road remains blocked due to ongoing landslide activity and repeated slippage of earth and debris onto the carriageway, hampering clearance efforts and movement.
Police personnel have been stationed at vulnerable points along the Pitapool–Potin route to assist landslide clearance teams, regulate vehicular movement, and ensure public safety. District officials said restoration work is being carried out on a war footing but remains dependent on prevailing weather conditions.
Priority, the administration added, is being given to allowing emergency response vehicles through, ensuring the movement of essential supplies, and deploying engineering equipment to restore connectivity at the earliest. Search and rescue teams remain on the ground as operations continue.
