Nagaland Police Teams Up with SBI to Enhance Financial Welfare for Personnel
In a significant move aimed at improving the financial well-being of its officers, the Nagaland police department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI). This partnership focuses on establishing a specialized Police Salary Package Account (PSPA) designed to offer a suite of enhanced financial services and welfare benefits to serving police personnel.
The MoU was officially signed on a Saturday by Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma and Dhruba Charan Bal, General Manager of SBI’s Guwahati circle. The signing ceremony took place in the PHQ conference hall in Kohima, attended by senior officials from both the Nagaland police and SBI, reflecting a collaborative effort to support police personnel and their families.
Under the newly initiated agreement, SBI will roll out an array of financial packages specifically for the Nagaland police force. Among the highlights are improved insurance benefits: personal accidental coverage has been raised to ₹1 crore, while air accidental cover has been increased to ₹2 crore. Additionally, the policy now includes permanent total disability cover worth ₹1 crore and permanent partial disability cover of ₹80 lakh.
A critical component of the PSPA is its provision for a ₹10 lakh natural death cover for officers who suffer fatalities while on duty. This measure underscores the commitment to safeguard the families of personnel who serve with dedication and risk. The bank will also offer family savings accounts for up to four family members of the police personnel, featuring a zero-balance facility and accident coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per account holder.
During the signing event, DGP Sharma emphasized the importance of these benefits, noting their potential impact on the welfare of police officers and their families. He stated, “Once the package comes into effect, around 20,000 police personnel whose accounts are with SBI will be able to access these enhanced benefits.” This initiative marks a proactive step towards ensuring the financial security of those who serve the community.
Sharma encouraged other personnel who wish to take advantage of the scheme to submit their application-cum-undertaking forms to their respective controlling officers. This initiative is expected to bolster morale and contribute to better financial stability among police personnel in Nagaland.
