Panic erupted late last night at a wedding venue in Guwahati’s Japorigog when a dramatic robbery attempt unfolded at the groom’s residence. A gang of four masked intruders allegedly attempted to break in shortly after the groom, Pawan Choudhury, left with the wedding party to fetch the bride from Patharquarry.
Witnesses reported that the gang arrived around 11:45 PM, riding two motorbikes with their faces concealed by black cloth. They made an effort to breach the main gate, trying to climb over and forcibly open the iron grill using iron rods. Thankfully, their attempts were thwarted as the gate was both securely locked and reinforced.
At the time of the attempted break-in, the only occupants inside the house were women, including the groom’s mother and several female relatives. Startled by the commotion, they promptly alerted the wedding party, prompting Pawan and his relatives to return swiftly from Patharquarry in two vehicles.
The Dispur Police responded to the scene shortly thereafter, initiating a preliminary investigation into the disruption. However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Mrinal Deka, attempted to downplay the incident, asserting, “There was no dacoity attempt. It was just a misunderstanding. A minor altercation occurred between a few individuals.”
