Mani, also known as Joseph, to life imprisonment for the murder of a 40-year-old man from Tirunelveli. Judge K. Vivekananthan delivered the verdict, finding the 56-year-old resident of Saravana Nagar, Edayarpalayam, guilty of murdering Bakyaraj. The incident dates back to August 29, 2021, when Bakyaraj, who was employed at a tea stall on Thadagam Road in Coimbatore, was discovered injured near the same location. Initial medical intervention took place at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Subsequently, Bakyaraj’s brother, Chandrabose, transferred him to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital in hopes of better care. Unfortunately, Bakyaraj succumbed to his injuries on September 3, 2021, as he did not respond to treatment.
The police investigation revealed that R. Mani had fatally assaulted Bakyaraj by forcefully striking his head against the ground. This heinous act prompted the arrest of Mani by the Saibaba Colony police. Following a meticulous investigation, a chargesheet was filed, leading to the commencement of the legal proceedings. The trial concluded with the court holding Mani culpable under Section 302 of the IPC, coupled with violations under Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST Act.
