Revolutionary Online Filing and Hearing Facility for Permanent Lok Adalats Launched by KELSA: Transform Justice with Ease Today!
Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar recently inaugurated a groundbreaking online filing and hearing facility for Permanent Lok Adalats in Kochi, marking a significant advancement in making legal proceedings more accessible in Kerala. This digital initiative, spearheaded by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA), aims to cater especially to marginalized communities, addressing the justice gap by leveraging technology to facilitate faster and more efficient dispute resolution.
The Permanent Lok Adalats serve as a vital alternative dispute resolution platform, settling disputes amicably without the prolonged processes typical of traditional court systems. Currently operational in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode, these Adalats will now offer applicants the convenience of filing their cases online from anywhere within the State. This shift is expected to save considerable time, resources, and effort, enhancing accessibility for all. The system is set to be available at e-Sewa Kendras and within district and taluk-level legal services authorities, ensuring broad reach and utility.
Highlighting the importance of integrating technology with the justice system, Chief Justice Jamdar stated, “This initiative reflects our commitment to making legal processes more inclusive and efficient, thereby ensuring that justice is not a privilege but a right accessible to everyone.”
In alignment with this technological advance, KELSA has also launched several supportive schemes. Notably, Athigeevanam was introduced as an interventional scheme aimed at assisting victims of natural disasters. Additionally, Samayam is designed to facilitate amicable settlements of civil, quasi-civil, and compoundable criminal matters that arise at police stations. As an extension of support for personal and domestic issues, Samanvaya provides a counselling mechanism targeted at resolving matrimonial and domestic disputes.
Adding to the awareness efforts, a short film titled “Arike” was also launched to sensitize the public about domestic violence issues. This film is a collaborative effort between KELSA and the Government Law College, Ernakulam, reflecting a commitment to education and prevention alongside intervention.
The launch of these initiatives reflects a broader strategy to incorporate a holistic approach to justice, emphasizing not only the resolution of disputes but also the prevention and broader social support. These steps signify a transformative period for Kerala’s legal landscape, promoting a system that is both modern and deeply rooted in inclusivity and accessibility.
Chief Justice Jamdar’s leadership in initiating these advancements reinforces the judiciary’s role in bridging gaps in the justice system. The integration of technology into legal processes underscores a progressive move towards a more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly judicial ecosystem.
As Kerala embraces these technological advancements, the state’s legal framework stands as a beacon of progress, paving the way for similar initiatives across India. With these measures, KELSA exemplifies how leveraging technology can aid in breaking down barriers to justice, ensuring that legal assistance and peaceful dispute resolution are within reach for everyone, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status.
