Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Unveils Plan for ‘Mahatech’ to Boost State’s Planning and Development
In a bid to accelerate the state’s planning process and drive its goal of a trillion-dollar economy, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to establish ‘Mahatech’, a new organization that will leverage space technology and geospatial technology to efficiently plan asset management, urban development, and natural resource planning. This move aims to strengthen people-oriented and transparent administration.
Chairing a review meeting to strengthen the GEO-Spatial Technology system, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of integrating Mahatech with the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC), which possesses a vast repository of valuable data that can be effectively utilized for future planning and decision-making. The Chief Minister also directed the Planning Department to create a dedicated cell for the expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti scheme in the state.
During the meeting, Ravikiran Govekar, Chief Conservator of Forests, presented on the potential of geospatial and space technology in administration, highlighting its role in streamlining various aspects of governance, including environment conservation, urban planning, and natural resource management.
Fadnavis expressed confidence that this new initiative will boost Maharashtra’s economic growth by fostering effective planning and decision-making. “Mahatech will revolutionize the way we approach planning and development in the state,” he said in a social media post, adding that the integration of IT, Mahatech, and MRSAC will enable seamless coordination across all departments and accelerate work.
With this move, the government is poised to usher in a more efficient and transparent administration, equipped to tackle complex issues such as urbanization, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. As the state continues to strive for economic growth and progress, the establishment of Mahatech is likely to have far-reaching implications for its people and its future.
