Revealed: 62 Arrested Over Fake Documents in Assam — Himanta
Guwahati: Sixty-two people posing as doctors have been arrested and 59 cases registered in Assam since last year, the state government said on Friday, part of an intensified crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners. The action, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, targets individuals who allegedly provided medical services without proper qualifications, putting patients at risk and undermining the healthcare system.
“We’re committed to weed out all forms of evils from our society. After extensive crackdown on the drugs syndicate and child marriage offenders, we’re on a mission to crack down on quack doctors to ensure the sanctity of our healthcare system and protect patients,” Sarma wrote in a post on X. The chief minister framed the operation as a continuation of recent enforcement drives against organised illegal activities in the state.
Authorities say the raids and arrests are intended to safeguard patients from harm and to uphold medical standards across Assam. The registrations and arrests follow investigations into clinics and individuals suspected of practising without recognised medical credentials.
The state government has signalled that the campaign will continue until unlicensed practice is eliminated, aiming to restore public confidence in healthcare services and to protect vulnerable patients from exploitation by fraudulent practitioners.
