Manipur Police Foils Terror Plot: Arrests KCP-PWG Operative, Seizes Arms and Ammunition in Late-Night Raids
MANIPUR POLICE NAB ACTIVE MEMBER OF KANGLEIPAκ COMMUNIST PARTY – PEOPLE’S WAR GROUP
In a significant breakthrough, Manipur Police arrested Ningthoukhongjam Sushil Meitei, also known as Kangla or Ishingchaoba (50), an active member of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), from Langthabal Kunja Mamang Leikai, near Konsam Oil Pump under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District on March 18. The authorities recovered a mobile phone from his possession during the arrest.
According to reliable sources, a series of intelligence inputs led to a search operation in Aripat under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, Thoubal District, resulting in the seizure of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition. The haul included a 7.62 mm SLR rifle, an anti-riot gun, two hand grenades, a detonator, an arming ring, an INSAS LMG magazine, and various quantities of ammunition, Tracer Rounds, and riot control equipment. Additionally, the security forces also seized two bulletproof jackets, two protective headgears, camouflage apparel, and a Baofeng radio set with two chargers.
The Manipur Police has reaffirmed its commitment to intensified, simultaneous raids to recover illicit arms and maintain law and order. To achieve this, the force has launched intelligence-based combing operations and cordon-and-search operations across hill and valley districts. Furthermore, security forces have intensified area domination patrols in vulnerable regions, ensuring safe passage for essential goods along National Highways (NH-37 and NH-2).
On March 18, a total of 209 vehicles on NH-37 and 360 vehicles on NH-2 were escorted under tight security to prevent disruptions. Additionally, the authorities have established 109 security checkpoints (Nakas) across Manipur to monitor movement and prevent illegal activities. Notably, no violations or detentions were reported during these operations. This significant achievement underscores the police’s efforts to curb the proliferation of looted and illegal weapons, as advocated by the Government of Manipur.
