YouTube Personality Ranveer Allahbadia Under Fire as Crime Branch Investigates Obscenity Outburst on Instagram Live
YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, spent over three and a half hours at the Guwahati Crime Branch office, grilled for his controversial remarks on a reality show called “India’s Got Latent” (IGL). The session, which followed Allahbadia’s arrival in the city on Thursday evening, has sparked a heated debate on social media and among legal experts.
The controversy began when Allahbadia made a comment on IGL, which drew widespread criticism and led to police investigations and potential legal action. He was summoned to Guwahati, along with fellow YouTubers Ashish Chanchalani and Apoorva Mukhija, who were also involved in the incident.
The duo, accompanied by Mukhija, had previously appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi, where they faced hours-long questioning. NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar described their comments as “simply not acceptable”. Chanchalani, on the other hand, had already appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch earlier this week.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Ankur Jain confirmed that Chanchalani had cooperated with the investigation and would be contacted if necessary. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest, terming his comments “vulgar” and stating that his “dirty mind” had brought shame to society.
The case, registered as Cyber Police Station Case No. 03/2025, is being investigated by the Guwahati Crime Branch under sections 79, 95, 294, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The FIR has been filed against several high-profile YouTubers, including Allahbadia, Chanchalani, Mukhija, and others for allegedly promoting obscenity online. The controversy has sparked a public debate on social media, with many calling for stricter regulations on online content.
As the incident continues to gain attention, it remains to be seen how the authorities will handle the case, and how the YouTubers involved will fare in the wake of the controversy.
