Breaking: Two ULFA(I) Cadres Held in Tinsukia with AK-56s, Grenades
Two suspected cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom‑Independent (ULFA‑I) were arrested by Assam Police in Jagun town, Tinsukia district, on June 26 after a targeted counter‑insurgency operation, according to initial reports. The men, identified by aliases as Chiyan Asom and Manoj Asom, were intercepted while travelling in a Swift car (registration AR20A5892).
Police say the duo allegedly entered Assam from Myanmar via Jairampur in Arunachal Pradesh. Acting on specific intelligence about their movement, officers laid a trap and detained them at Jagun Bazaar. During the operation, authorities reportedly recovered two AK‑56 assault rifles, six magazines and grenades from the suspects.
The arrested cadres have been taken to Tinsukia for further interrogation and investigation. Police officials are expected to probe their alleged links to ULFA‑I activities and to determine the purpose of their entry into Assam.
An official statement from the Assam Police on the operation is awaited. The arrests and weapons seizure underscore ongoing security concerns along the Assam–Arunachal–Myanmar corridor and highlight continued policing efforts to disrupt armed group movements in the region.
