Game-Changing Infrastructure Incentives: Pontoon Bridge and Electrification Unveiled for Rani Chapori’s Resurgence
Rani Chapori, a rural town in Dharapur, Assam, is set to undergo significant transformation with the construction of a pontoon bridge and electrification project, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 7. The initiative addresses long-standing issues in transportation and power supply, identified by the CM during his recent visit to the region.
The town’s residents face challenges in moving agricultural products, with boats serving as the primary mode of transport, but carrying goods via boat is a major hurdle. Due to the region’s unstable terrain, building a permanent bridge is not feasible. The pontoon bridge, capable of supporting 2-3 tonnes, will provide smoother movement, with the possibility of constructing another on the other side to enhance connectivity, if deemed successful.
The lack of electricity in Rani Chapori is another pressing issue, with solar power offering a potential solution. However, a consistent electricity supply is crucial for agricultural productivity and nighttime activities. CM Sarma collaborated with Minister Prasanta Phukan and APDCL MD Rakesh Kumar to develop an electrification plan. This initiative will install an 8 km high-tension line from the nearest power source, spanning 25 km of land with low-tension (LT) lines. Five 63 KVA and five 25 KVA transformers will be installed, ensuring electricity reaches 4,000 bighas of land and benefits around 400 families.
The government is committed to delivering on its promises, with work on both projects already underway just two months after assessing the region’s needs. The projects are expected to boost agricultural output, enhance living conditions, and improve connectivity for the region’s residents.
CM Sarma emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the concerns of Rani Chapori, stating, “We are committed to delivering on our promises. We have identified the key issues and are taking concrete measures to address them. I am confident that these projects will have a positive impact on the lives of the people here.” The effort is set to bring about a significant change in the lives of Rani Chapori’s residents, with the potential to increase agricultural productivity, enhance living conditions, and improve connectivity.
