Shocking Irony Unveiled: India Condemns Pakistan’s Bold Claim in Global Terrorism Fight at UNSC
India has strongly criticized Pakistan at a UN Security Council meeting chaired by China, accusing it of being a “global epicenter of terrorism.” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted that Pakistan harbors more than 20 UN-listed terrorist entities, including groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Harkat Ul Mujahidin, and continues to support cross-border terrorism against India. Harish termed it a “supreme irony” that Pakistan claims to combat terrorism while fostering it.
The comments were made during an open debate on “Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance,” following remarks by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Ishaq Dar on Jammu and Kashmir. Ambassador Harish reiterated India’s stance that Jammu and Kashmir are integral to India and accused Pakistan of illegally occupying parts of the region. He further stressed that no form of terrorism can be justified under any political pretext, urging the international community to treat all terrorists without distinction.
Harish also countered Pakistan’s misinformation campaigns, emphasizing that democratic processes were successfully upheld in Jammu and Kashmir, with high voter turnout in recent elections, showcasing a vibrant democratic spirit contrasting with the situation in Pakistan.
The international response to Pakistan-based terrorist entities includes listings under the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al Qaida Sanctions Committee, enforcing asset freezes, arms embargoes, and travel bans. Harish pointed out that China has previously blocked proposals by India and allies like the US to sanction these entities further.
The statement reflects India’s firm diplomatic stance against Pakistani terrorism while calling for reforms in global governance to better address and counter state-sponsored terror activities.
