Manipur Crackdown: Security Forces Arrest 4 Insurgents, Seize Arms
Security forces arrested four alleged insurgents and recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during coordinated counter-insurgency operations across Manipur over the last 48 hours, officials said. The raids covered Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Kakching districts and yielded a major weapons dump and multiple arrests.
In Imphal West, personnel uncovered a significant arms cache that included three AK-series rifles, a 9mm pistol, four magazines, 37 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, and two Baofeng digital radio handsets. Authorities described the find as a major breakthrough in disrupting the supply of military-grade weapons to underground groups in the state.
Concurrently, an alleged insurgent was apprehended in the Yairipok Kakmayai Lamkhai area of Thoubal district in possession of a .32 pistol and a loaded magazine. Another operative was tracked and detained near Shagolsem Pukhri in Imphal East, while a third was held at Wangjing Sabal Leikai in Thoubal. Separately, an individual accused of extorting funds for an underground outfit was taken into custody in Kakching district.
All four detained persons and the seized equipment have been handed over to the local police for further legal action. Investigations are ongoing to map the suspects’ wider logistical networks and to determine any links to recent unlawful activities across the state.
Security officials said the operations aim to disrupt arms flows and financial support to insurgent groups in Manipur. The seizures and arrests are likely to be followed by forensic examination of the weapons and radio devices, and by intelligence-led inquiries to identify suppliers, handlers and broader networks.
