Shocking Allegations: Assam Police Files FIR Against Pakistani National Over Controversial Links to Gaurav Gogoi’s Wife
The Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a case against Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and others, invoking various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. This development was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 17. The case, identified as CID PS Case No 05/2025, was registered following a state cabinet decision in response to rising concerns about alleged foreign meddling in India’s internal affairs.
The investigation focuses on Sheikh’s reported links to Elizabeth Gogoi, who is married to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. Elizabeth, a British national, is alleged to have been associated with ‘Lead Pakistan’ during her stint in Islamabad. She reportedly maintained connections with Sheikh through climate change organizations active in both India and Pakistan. Chief Minister Sarma underscored his concerns regarding Sheikh’s extensive network within Pakistani governmental and diplomatic circles.
This action by the Assam state government is situated against a backdrop of longstanding security challenges in the region. The Director General of Police has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation, probing potential wider conspiracies. Additionally, national security agencies are expected to participate in the inquiry, underscoring the case’s significance to national security.
In light of these developments, state authorities intend to formally notify senior Congress leaders, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Bora. The investigation highlights the sensitive intersection of international relations and national security, amid concerns of external influence within India’s domestic dynamics.
