Empowering Change: Manas National Park Officials Embrace Vital Law Amendments Training in Assam
To bolster wildlife protection initiatives, investigators at Assam’s Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve have received advanced training in case inquiry and examination, a senior official disclosed on Tuesday. Field Director C. Ramesh reports that 27 officers from six forest divisions underwent an intensive five-day refresher course within the Bansbari range. This initiative aims to enhance their skills in investigation, evidence collection, and framing wildlife offences, integrating the latest amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and other recently updated criminal laws.
The training, organized by the Field Directorate of Manas Tiger Reserve along with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), seeks to reduce knowledge gaps among the officers. The exercise also included sessions focused on updating the understanding of relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
Ramesh emphasized the training as part of an ongoing process to enhance investigators’ skills, ensuring they are well-versed in procedural changes. This initiative reflects a strategic commitment to improving the efficacy of wildlife law enforcement by enabling officers to navigate recent legislative developments and effectively address challenges in wildlife protection.
