Exciting Nagaland International Conference Ignites Tourism, Transport & Logistics Innovations!
The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) launched the Nagaland International Conference on Tourism, Transport, and Logistics (NICTTL) on February 7 at Zone Niathu by the Park, aiming to propel Nagaland into a distinguished tourism hub and enhance its logistics and transport systems. The two-day event, themed “Empowering Nagaland, India through Connectivity and Sustainable Development,” assembled both local and international experts to foster collaborations, share insights, and explore avenues for economic development through tourism enhancements.
BAN President L. Mongkum Jamir highlighted Nagaland’s untapped tourism potential and stressed the importance of creating wealth through effective resource use, cautioning against dependency on freebies. He emphasized the need for robust infrastructure to support economic growth, a responsibility he attributes to the government.
Former Nagaland Tourism Secretary Thangi Mannen pointed out the state’s community-driven tourism advantages, with 88.3% of forests being community-owned, which presents opportunities for conservation-led tourism. Mannen advocated for responsible tourism to preserve Nagaland’s natural and cultural heritage.
Japanese Embassy Second Secretary, Ryuta Saito, encouraged leveraging cultural similarities between Japan and Nagaland to boost tourism. He stressed fostering people-to-people programs and highlighted the potential of appealing to Japanese tourists through special interest tours.
Tourism Secretary Nchumbemo Lotha introduced Nagaland’s new tourism policy for 2024, focusing on infrastructure planning and support for community-led tours. He noted that easing Restricted Area Permit (RAP) regulations could significantly increase international tourist influx and investment in the state.
MLA Hekani Jakhalu showcased the Hornbill Festival’s economic success, underscoring the need for understanding government challenges in tourism decision-making.
The conference also addressed industry challenges like plastic pollution and called for establishing eco-tourism boards. The event will conclude with BAN’s announcement of the Tourism Excellence Awards, recognizing achievements in eco-friendly accommodation, conservation practices, and tour operations. The conference will wrap up on February 8.
