Agartala, January 31, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced that the 16th Finance Commission delegation expressed satisfaction with Tripura’s performance during recent discussions. Key issues were addressed to ensure the welfare of all societal sections, including government employees, the working class, and the general populace.
Dr. Saha emphasized that the state raised significant matters such as the Rs. 15,000 crore loss caused by severe floods, alongside crucial topics like the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, Dearness Allowance (DA), and infrastructure development. The state government highlighted its commitment to financial discipline, a point recognized and appreciated by the Finance Commission.
The meeting also spotlighted the challenge of having 73% of Tripura’s land as reserved forest, limiting the scope for large-scale industrial developments. Dr. Saha urged the commission to consider special accommodations for this geographical constraint to aid in Tripura’s economic growth. The Finance Commission, tasked with advisory and recommendation roles, is expected to provide guidance addressing these challenges.
In addressing the striving for inclusive growth, Dr. Saha reiterated discussions on direct fund allocations to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The Chief Minister aligned Tripura’s developmental goal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a "Vikshit Bharat," aiming for a fully developed state by 2047.
The comprehensive discourse with the Finance Commission covered a spectrum of issues indicating the state government’s dedication to fostering equitable development across diverse demographics. Dr. Saha’s statements assured that the government’s initiatives are in line with national aspirations, promising enhanced socio-economic conditions for Tripura’s citizens.
