Arunachal Pradesh Shines at 38th National Games with Seven Medals
DEHRADUN, 31 Jan: Arunachal Pradesh had a commendable performance at the 38th National Games on Friday, securing four more medals and bringing their total to seven. Among the highlights was Mercy Ngaimong’s impressive achievement in Wushu. Ngaimong clinched a gold medal in the Jianshu event, marking her third consecutive gold at the National Games, following victories in Gujarat and Goa.
In weightlifting, the state’s strong showing continued as Markio Tario secured a silver medal in the senior men’s 67 kg category. Tario delivered a total lift of 283 kgs, narrowly bested by Andhra Pradesh’s Neelam Raju, who achieved a gold with 289 kgs. Assam’s Siddhanta Gogoi earned the bronze in this competition.
Adding to the tally, Balo Yalam captured a bronze medal in the senior women’s 59 kg weightlifting category. Yalam’s total lift of 187 kgs helped her earn the podium finish. The gold in this category went to Odisha’s Rima Bhoi, with Haryana’s Sneha claiming silver.
In another victory for Arunachal, Gyamar Yatup won a bronze medal in the 48 kg category of Wushu. With the conclusion of this eventful day, Arunachal Pradesh’s medal haul at the Games stands at two golds, two silvers, and three bronzes, showcasing the state’s growing prowess in national sports.
