Exciting Developments: Two Thrilling Ropeway Projects Set to Transform Assam’s Scenic Landscape
Centre Launches Ropeway Projects in Assam
In an initiative to boost connectivity and tourism, the central government has initiated the development of two new ropeway projects in Assam under the Parvatmala Pariyojana scheme. National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a company under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, has invited bids for detailed project reports for these ropeways, which are set to be constructed at Jatinga Bird Watching Tower in Haflong and Bhuban Pahar Mahadev Temple in Cachar district. The planned lengths are 3.5 km for Haflong and 2.78 km for Cachar.
These projects form part of a broader list of 18 upcoming ropeway projects across India, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing last-mile connectivity in hilly areas and offering alternative transit options in congested cities. Parvatmala Pariyojana, announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, is designed to ease travel for commuters while supporting tourism growth. The initiative also aims to address transport challenges in urban areas where traditional mass transit solutions may not be feasible.
Furthermore, NHLML had previously sought tenders for a 1.43 km ropeway project linking Kamakhya Railway Station to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, valued at an estimated Rs 141.94 crore. As these projects progress, they promise to transform transport landscapes in both urban and rural settings, offering scenic, efficient, and practical travel alternatives.
