Heartfelt Congratulations: Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Applauds West Point School Band’s Triumphant National Victory
Sikkim has once again showcased its musical prowess as the Girls’ Brass Band from West Point Government Senior Secondary School claimed the top spot at the National School Band Competition for 2024-25. The prestigious event, part of the Republic Day Celebrations in 2025, took place at New Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and witnessed an impressive performance that captivated both the judges and the audience.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang lauded the ensemble’s achievement, expressing pride in their accomplishment. “This is a monumental moment for us all,” he remarked, commending the students for their dedication and passion, which have brought great joy and honor to the state.
Remarkably, the Girls’ Brass Band was formed only in 2024. Despite its nascent status, the band swiftly ascended to national prominence, demonstrating extraordinary discipline and musical talent. This triumph was achieved under the expert guidance of mentors Deepak Dhakal, Kishan Sir, and Nitesh Thapa, who played crucial roles in developing the band into a national champion.
The school’s Boys’ Brass Band also earned a national title in January 2024, establishing a tradition of musical excellence that the girls’ team now proudly continues. Sikkim’s burgeoning reputation in the national music scene is a testament to the dedication and commitment of its educators and young musicians alike.
