Breaking: Manipur Security Heroes Discover Massive Arms Cache in Imphal East, Ensuring Peace and Safety
On January 25, Manipur police reported the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the Imphal East district. Acting on precise intelligence, security forces conducted a raid on January 24 in the Awang Potshangbam hills of the Heingang area. The operation uncovered several items: an SLR rifle without a magazine, an SMG carbine without a magazine, a .32 pistol marked “Made in USA” with a magazine, two 51mm country-made mortars, two .32 live rounds, a 36 hand grenade without a detonator, a Grenade No. 80 Mark-1, a smoke shell 50m, and a Baofeng wireless radio set.
As part of their ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and illegal activities, security personnel intensified their search operations in Manipur’s vulnerable hill and valley areas. They also ensured the safe passage of essential goods, with 342 and 276 vehicles traveling along National Highways 2 and 37, respectively. Enhanced security measures were implemented, including the deployment of security convoys in sensitive areas to facilitate free and secure vehicle movement.
To further tighten security, 109 checkpoints, or “Nakas,” were established across various districts in both hill and valley regions. Despite these stringent measures, no detentions were reported. This operation highlights the ongoing vigilance and robust efforts of Manipur’s security forces in maintaining law and order and countering illegal activities in the region.
