Tragic Showdown: 14 Maoists Perish in Intense Chhattisgarh Encounter, Search Operations Intensify
Gariaband, Chhattisgarh: In a significant breakthrough, security forces have eliminated at least 14 Maoists, including six women, in an ongoing encounter in the dense forests of Bhalu-Diggi, Gariaband district. The operation, which began on January 19, is a joint effort involving forces from Chhattisgarh and Odisha, including the 207th battalion of CRPF’s CoBRA unit, CRPF’s 65 and 211 Battalions, and Odisha’s SOG Nuapada and Operation Group E30.
Raipur Inspector General of Police, Amresh Kumar Mishra, confirmed the successful encounter in a press conference, stating that all the bodies of the deceased Maoists have been recovered. Alongside, a substantial cache of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, SLR, revolver, and numerous cartridges, was seized from the confrontation site.
The operation was initiated following precise intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the region, which has witnessed frequent insurgent activities. More than 50 Maoists were reportedly present in the area, instigating a robust response from the security personnel. The encounter has seen ongoing intermittent gunfire as forces continue to comb the forest for remaining threats.
Further deployments of security personnel were made on Tuesday night to ensure comprehensive coverage and prevent Maoist escape and regrouping. The security forces are systematically searching every corner of the forest to flush out any remaining Maoists.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai lauded the bravery and commitment of the security forces, highlighting the operation’s success as a testament to the state’s resolve in tackling Maoist insurgency. This recent operation follows another significant encounter on January 16 in Bijapur district, where 17 Maoists were neutralized, further denting insurgent capabilities in the region.
The ongoing operations represent a crucial success for the security forces in their sustained campaign to diminish Maoist activities and restore peace in the affected areas.
