Revolutionize Hyderabad: Telangana CM’s Passionate Plea for a 100% Electric Public Transport Transformation
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called on the Central government to aid in converting Hyderabad’s public transportation into a fully electric system. During a series of meetings in Delhi, Mr. Reddy sought the support of Union Ministers for pressing environmental clearances on pivotal development projects across the state. At meetings with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of expedited clearances for 161 stalled projects in Telangana due to pending environmental and forest permissions. Among these, 38 projects require wildlife-related permissions crucial for enhancing development in remote areas and those affected by Left-Wing Extremism.
Mr. Reddy also underscored the significance of projects related to national highway construction, tower installations in agency regions, and connectivity improvements with neighboring states. Additionally, he stressed the urgency of advancing the Gouravelli Project given its potential impact on irrigation. The Union Environment Minister assured that these requests would receive positive consideration.
In discussions with Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Mr. Reddy advocated for transforming Hyderabad’s bus fleet into an entirely electric one, a move aimed at enhancing the city’s environmental footprint and public transport efficiency. He requested the allocation of buses under the PM e-Drive Scheme on a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model and proposed retrofitting existing diesel buses with electric kits. This initiative is a step towards modernizing the city’s transit infrastructure and aligning with sustainable practices. Mr. Reddy was accompanied by several State Ministers, underscoring the state’s commitment and unified front in seeking Central support for these developments.
These meetings highlight Telangana’s resolve to promote sustainable transportation and infrastructure growth, aligning with broader national and environmental goals.
