Back on January 3, authorities faced significant resistance in their initial attempt to serve the arrest warrant, marking a historic move against a sitting South Korean president. A standoff with hundreds of security agents and military guards thwarted the proceedings.
On Wednesday, approximately 6,500 of Yoon’s supporters gathered at the residence, with some members from the ruling party forming a human chain to prevent the arrest. The arrest team, composed of personnel from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) and the police, had secured a reissued warrant on January 7. They had conducted numerous strategic meetings to ensure this operation’s success.
