Exciting Breakthrough: IT Minister’s Bold Move to Attract Malaysian Investment Ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0
Guwahati, Jan 14: As Assam gears up for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, State IT and Science and Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta has been actively courting international investors. Recently, Minister Mahanta met with Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Mr. Liew Chin Tong, aiming to attract investment to Assam.
Minister Mahanta’s visit to Malaysia included a roadshow in Kuala Lumpur and a series of fruitful Business to Government discussions with leading Malaysian semiconductor companies. These meetings focused on integrating Assam into the global semiconductor supply chain, with discussions on enhancing the state’s manufacturing and innovation capabilities. The roadshow engaged over 150 businesses, presenting Assam as an attractive destination for investment and collaboration.
In a recent social media update, Mahanta announced promising talks on potential investments in Assam’s semiconductor sector following these engagements. He invited companies to participate in the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, set to happen in Guwahati on February 25, highlighting significant opportunities across the state’s burgeoning sectors.
The promotional roadshow in Malaysia is part of a larger strategy to draw global attention to Assam’s investment potential, complemented by past events in Thailand, Bhutan, Mumbai, and New Delhi. These efforts have successfully laid the foundation for the summit.
Additionally, Minister Mahanta hosted a Government-to-Business meeting with representatives from the ASEAN India Economic Council, various Malaysian business associations, and other entities on January 12. The discussions reportedly generated strong interest in the summit, with commitments to explore high-tech manufacturing prospects in Assam.
In a strategic development, Singapore has been named the first partner country for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, slated for February 2025. This announcement was made by Singapore’s High Commissioner following an Ambassador’s Roundtable in Delhi, attended by Assam’s Chief Minister, signaling a promising future for international cooperation and investment in the region.
