Stunning Victory: Papum Pare Police Triumph with 140 Kg Cannabis Seizure, Four Assam Residents Arrested
Papum Pare police in Arunachal Pradesh successfully intercepted a significant drug trafficking operation on January 10 at Sopo village, resulting in the seizure of approximately 140 kg of cannabis. Acting on reliable intelligence, authorities apprehended four individuals, all residents of Assam, and identified as Lakshan Basumatary (30 years), Babul Nath (44 years), Prabin Narzary (35 years), and Dhan Sharmah (34 years). The individuals were traveling in two vehicles, with Basumatary driving the main vehicle and the others accompanying him in an escort car. This led to the registration of Case No. 04/25 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Doimukh Police Station.
Upon further investigation, law enforcement officials uncovered that the cannabis originated from Ankaling village in the Kalaktang region of West Kameng District. This discovery prompted a follow-up operation spearheaded by SDPO Radhe Obing, SI Tage Saa, ASI TD Goiba, ASI MA Nur, along with other officers. Their efforts culminated in the additional seizure of 510 kg of cannabis from Ankaling village, significantly increasing the total confiscated amount to approximately 650 kg.
The police, led by SI Nako Ribya and SP Taru Gusar, IPS, are actively pursuing other individuals involved in this drug trafficking network and have reaffirmed their dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes. The robust operation highlights the Papum Pare police’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the community and combating the menace of drug trafficking in the region. Investigations continue as authorities aim to dismantle the entire network responsible for this substantial illegal trade.
