Shocking Revelation: Over 2,815 Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested and 1,746 Deported in Three Years – Unveiled by CM Dr. Manik Saha
Agartala, 13th January 2025: A Continual Challenge of Infiltration Across Borders
Over the last three years, Tripura has grappled with the issue of illegal infiltrations from Bangladesh, resulting in the apprehension of 2815 Bangladeshi nationals. Of these, 1746 have been deported back to Bangladesh, according to figures revealed by Chief Minister and Home Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, during the ongoing session of the 13th Legislative Assembly.
The disclosure came in response to questions raised by several MLAs, including Tipra Matha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, and CPM MLA Nayan Sarkar. In his written reply, Dr. Saha provided a detailed account of the arrests made between 2022 and October 31, 2024.
He highlighted that the remaining 1069 individuals apprehended for illegal entry are currently in various legal or custodial states. Of these, 474 are held in jail custody, 8 are in temporary detention centers, and 2 individuals are housed in shelter homes. An additional 585 have been released on bail following court orders.
Addressing the assembly, Chief Minister Saha underscored the state’s continuous efforts to secure borders and resolve the complexities of detainee rehabilitation. He reassured the legislators of the government’s unwavering commitment, stating, “We are taking every measure to ensure that our borders remain secure and legal procedures are followed diligently.”
The issue of cross-border infiltration remains a pressing concern in the region, drawing attention to the critical need for enhanced border security measures and addressing humanitarian aspects associated with detention. The Chief Minister’s latest update reflects the ongoing challenges and the proactive steps being taken by the state to mitigate illegal infiltration and reinforce border security.
