Assam Police Triumph: Heroic Bust of Smuggling Operation Seizes 2,300 Illicit Cough Syrup Bottles in Azara
Assam Police have uncovered a significant illegal contraband operation at a warehouse in Azara, leading to the seizure of over 2,300 bottles of banned cough syrup and 18 kilograms of suspicious tablets. This operation, led by ACP Azara and the local police team, followed a tip-off regarding illegal goods stored at the site.
The godown, located in Hatkhuwapara near GIMT University, was operating under the guise of a courier service while serving as a hub for smuggling activities. Investigations revealed that the contraband items originated from Patna and were disguised as legitimate packages intended for delivery in Shillong. Among the seized items were 23 cartons of Phensedyl, a cough syrup known for its narcotic effects, and tablets hidden in packets deceptively labeled as coriander powder.
The operation’s manager, Biplab Mazumder, has been taken into custody for questioning as authorities work to unravel the broader network involved in the smuggling ring. In light of this discovery, police officials have stressed the importance of increased surveillance and tougher measures to dismantle such operations and ensure accountability for those involved.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and illegal distribution networks. Authorities are determined to trace back the origins of the contraband and prevent further illegal activities in the region. This seizure follows another recent incident where the Enforcement Directorate confiscated 66 kg of marijuana in Tripura, indicating a larger regional issue with inter-state drug trafficking.
