Celebrated USTM Teacher YK Mohanta Triumphs with Prestigious RNP Grant from Malta Government
Guwahati, Jan 10: Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, an Assistant Professor and Group Leader at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been awarded the prestigious international Research Networking Project (RNP-2024) grant. This key development was announced in a press release emphasizing Dr. Mohanta’s pioneering role in the Nanobiotechnology and Translational Knowledge Laboratory within the Department of Applied Biology at USTM.
The RNP-2024 initiative, supported by XJENZA MALTA under the Government of Malta, is a collaborative project with Professor Renald Blundell from the University of Malta. This project, identified as RNP-2024-008, is titled “Developing therapeutic functional foods by formulating symbiotic microcapsules using edible mushrooms as prebiotic resources—MYCO-BIO.” Its primary aim is to harness the potential of mushrooms in creating innovative functional foods, positioning them as vital resources for future nutrition.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Dr. Mohanta highlighted its potential to significantly enhance the field of functional food development. He underscored the innovative use of mushrooms as prebiotic resources, which holds promise for advancing health-focused food technologies.
Dr. Mohanta’s research expertise is well-established, exemplified by his successful completion of a previous project funded by the Department of Science and Technology—Anusandhan National Research Foundation (DST-ANRF) for 2022–2024. This background reinforces his capability to lead such a groundbreaking international collaboration.
The RNP-2024 initiative aims to foster lasting research partnerships between USTM and the University of Malta, in alignment with USTM’s global mission. Through this collaboration, researchers and students from both universities will engage in meaningful knowledge exchanges, creating pathways for future research opportunities and technological innovations. This project not only highlights USTM’s commitment to global cooperation but also reinforces its role as a leading institution in cutting-edge research.
