Thrilling Victory: HS Prannoy, Malvika Bansod & Mixed Doubles Teams Triumph to Pre-Quarterfinals
Indian badminton players showcased their prowess at the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur, advancing in various categories to the pre-quarterfinals. In men’s singles, HS Prannoy defeated Canada’s Brian Yang with scores of 21-12, 17-21, 21-15. Prannoy is scheduled to play against China’s seventh-seed Shi Feng Li in today’s round of 16 at 8:10 AM IST.
On the women’s singles front, Malvika Bansod delivered a strong performance by overcoming local contender Goh Jin Wei with a 21-15, 21-16 victory. Malvika will compete with Han Yue from China at 10:30 AM IST today.
The mixed doubles category saw two Indian pairs advancing. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto dispatched South Korea’s Sung Hyun Ko and Hye Won Eom with a convincing 21-13, 21-14 win. They are set to challenge the seventh-seeded Chinese team of Xing Cheng and Chi Zhang, with their match commencing at 6:40 AM IST.
In another mixed doubles matchup, Indian duo Sathish and Aadya triumphed over compatriots Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh, securing a 21-13, 21-15 win. Their next challenge awaits in the form of Malaysia’s fourth-seeded pair, Soon Huat Goh and Shevon Jemie Lai, at 9:10 AM.
The men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and S Rankireddy are set to face Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub this morning at 10:10 AM IST.
In the women’s doubles, Teresa Jolly and G Gopichand are slated to challenge China’s Zhang Shuxian and Jia Yifan at 7:50 AM IST.
However, not all was victorious for the Indian contingent. In women’s doubles, siblings Rutaparna and Swetaparna Panda faced a setback after being defeated by Thailand’s Benyapa and Nuntakarn Aimsaard, with scores of 17-21, 10-21.
