Thiruvananthapuram, India: Dr. V Narayanan, a distinguished rocket scientist and newly appointed chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has shared his ambitious vision to harness technological and scientific advancements to improve the lives of Indians. Dr. Narayanan will officially succeed S Somanath, whose three-year tenure concludes next week, initiating his two-year term on January 14. An alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur, the new ISRO chief boasts nearly four decades of experience within the organization, having held multiple key positions. He conveyed confidence in the progress of upcoming projects, including Chandrayaan-4, the Gaganyaan mission, and a Venus orbital mission.
Reflecting on his unexpected selection, Narayanan admitted, "When we join, we don’t look at these positions. We just work hard and give our best effort." Inspired by past leaders like S Somanath and Vikram Sarabhai, he remains committed to driving India’s development through climate studies, disaster management systems, and enhanced communication via satellites.
Dr. Narayanan highlighted ISRO’s continued contribution to improving citizen quality of life through its cutting-edge projects. His family, including his wife Dr. Kavitha and daughter Divya, expressed immense pride in his new role. "It is a huge step for Dad," said Divya, underscoring the importance of dedication and hard work, regardless of one’s background.
