In a recent interview on Pod Scum with “Reckless” Rexx Ruger, musician Mick Sweda shared details about his latest band, THE ROCKETT MAFIA. This exciting new project features renowned drummer Rikki Rockett from POISON, vocalist and guitarist Brandon Gibbs of DEVIL CITY ANGELS, and bassist Bryan Kimes. Initially, the group plans to delight audiences with covers imbued with a ’70s vibe, reflecting the era that Sweda and Rockett both cherish. They have already lined up several performances, including a significant gig at Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles.
THE ROCKETT MAFIA officially debuted in May 2024 at The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride motorcycle charity event in Santa Monica, California, with guitarist Brent Woods and bassist Wiley Hodgden joining Rockett and Gibbs. Previously, Rockett and Gibbs had collaborated in DEVIL CITY ANGELS alongside Tracii Guns and Eric Brittingham, who was later replaced by Rudy Sarzo, and eventually, Topher Nelson. The band released a well-received self-titled album in 2015 and a single, “Testify,” in 2020. However, the group became inactive following Rockett’s cancer diagnosis.
Despite past tensions due to Rockett’s health challenges affecting DEVIL CITY ANGELS’ activity, he and Gibbs have resolved their differences, paving the way for new creative endeavors. Rockett praised Gibbs for his classic ’70s sound and unencumbered style, making him a perfect fit for their rock collaborations. Previously, Rockett and his POISON bandmates joined forces as THE SPECIAL GUESTS to send a clear message about their readiness to perform despite Bret Michaels’ solo pursuits.
THE ROCKETT MAFIA is poised to capture fans’ attention with its energetic performances, while Rockett remains passionate about returning to his rock roots. Adding to his excitement, Rockett’s memoir, “Ghost Notes,” is set to release on July 15, 2025, providing fans with deeper insights into his life and career.
