Deputy CM Y. Patton Calls for Unified Naga Political Groups at 175th Lhisemia Kethinuokelie Anniversary

Kohima, January 4: During the 175th anniversary of Lhisemia Kethinuokelie held at the NBCC Convention Centre in Kohima, Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton, emphasized the need for unity among the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to achieve a permanent political solution. He appealed to these groups, asserting that genuine sacrifices for the cause of the Naga people require unity and collective efforts.

Patton highlighted that the Government of India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is open to providing a solution, contingent on the unity of Naga factions. He clarified that there would be a single solution for the entire Naga society, not individual solutions for each faction. While acknowledging factions engaged in sincere negotiations with the Government of India, Patton criticized others he perceived as self-serving or involved in extortion.

Addressing the fragmentation of Naga society, he emphasized the necessity of a cohesive community for the state’s growth and future generations. Patton informed that the state government, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has established an oppositionless government, uniting all 60 MLAs regardless of party affiliation, to foster unity and strive towards a final resolution of the protracted Naga political issue.

Recalling the early days of the Naga political movement under the revered leader AZ Phizo, Patton lamented that the movement has splintered into numerous factions, with illegal taxation and extortion pervasive. He noted that these challenges hinder the community’s ability to pursue sustainable development and progress.

Patton’s call for unity is seen as crucial at this crossroads moment, where a strong, unified society is essential for navigating the complexities of the Naga political landscape and securing a lasting solution.
