Sincere Apologies to Conflict Victims: A Powerful Stand Against Terrorism
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has firmly responded to the Congress party’s criticism regarding his recent apology for the ongoing crisis in the state. Singh clarified that his apology was directed towards the victims of the conflict, not the perpetrators of violence. His statement came during the oath-taking ceremony of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the newly appointed governor of Manipur.
Singh accused the Congress of contributing to the state’s turmoil, suggesting they are not inclined to restore peace. “Congress can claim anything, even equating the sun to the moon,” he remarked, emphasizing his apology was meant for those who suffered losses, not for terrorists.
The Chief Minister praised the central government’s decision to appoint Bhalla, an experienced and capable official, as a move demonstrating serious intent to address Manipur’s issues. Singh expressed strong belief in Bhalla’s ability to contribute to restoring peace in the state.
The conflict in Manipur, Singh noted, is complex and resolution will take time. However, he assured that the central government is honoring 60 to 70 percent of the people’s demands, urging residents to trust in its efforts to protect and save the state.
Meanwhile, Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra criticized Singh’s apology, viewing it as an admission of the “double-engine” government’s failure. Meghachandra questioned Singh’s strategy to address the continuing violence, challenging him to clarify future actions. He urged the state’s people to consider the responsibility implied in Singh’s apology.
This exchange highlights continuing tensions between the state’s government and opposition amid efforts to stabilize Manipur. The appointment of Bhalla as governor offers a potential new chapter in the effort to bring peace and normalcy back to the troubled region.
