Raj Bhavan in Sikkim celebrated the 73rd birthday of Governor Om Prakash Mathur with grandeur and enthusiasm at Ashirvad Bhavan. The event saw an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, several ministers such as Bhim Hang Subba and Rajasthan’s Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma, as well as High Court judges, MLAs, and military officials. Guests from the Governor’s home state, Rajasthan, also attended.
The celebration commenced with a welcome address from Rajasthan’s former minister, Narayan Joshi, who lauded Governor Mathur for his commitment and leadership. Chief Minister Tamang extended deep respect for the Governor’s dedication to public service, highlighting his role in fostering progress in Sikkim, particularly in environmental conservation, education, and rural development. He praised the Governor’s honest and exemplary political journey, including his tenure as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
A major focus was the upcoming golden jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood, set for May 16, under the Governor’s guidance. The Chief Minister emphasized the Governor’s pivotal role in transforming Sikkim into a model of development and sustainability. He expressed his privilege to serve under Mathur’s inspiring leadership and wished him continued success and health.
Sanjay Sharma also addressed the gathering, commending the Governor’s contributions to the state’s progress. The event featured the ceremonial presentation of khadas and bouquets to the Governor, along with a vibrant cultural program that highlighted Sikkim and Rajasthan’s rich heritage.
Earlier, Governor Mathur visited Hanuman Tok and Enchey Monastery to offer prayers for the state’s peace. The day was marked by courtesy visits to Raj Bhavan by the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, who extended personal birthday wishes and gratitude to the Governor for his exemplary service.
