Unbelievable: 18 Former MoS and 12 Ex-MPs Retain Security — A Bold Move by Delhi Police to Inform MHA
The Delhi Police is set to consult the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding the security cover of 18 former Ministers of State (MoS) and 12 ex-Members of Parliament (MPs) who retain their protection even after their terms have ended. An internal audit by the police highlighted this issue, noting that the security cover for many individuals had not been reviewed for some time. Post-audit, numerous security arrangements were terminated, yet several former officials, including ex-MOS and MPs, still retain their Y-category cover which includes three Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and four officers at their residences.
The audit identified former ministers such as Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Devusinh Chauhan, and others, as well as several former MPs, including Gautam Gambhir and Abhijit Mukherjee. Additional figures with ongoing security cover include ex-J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik and other prominent former officials. The extent of security provided to these individuals is determined by the MHA, based upon intelligence agency inputs.
The Delhi Police plans to submit a letter to the MHA for a final decision on whether these individuals should continue receiving security. Despite inquiries, Special CP (security division) Jaspal Singh did not comment on the matter. The review was initially prompted by the need to reassess security based on positional or threat evaluations.
As the discussion progresses, the MHA’s verdict will determine if these former officials continue to receive security support, reflecting the capital’s approach to managing public safety for former leadership figures. The Delhi Police’s proactive stance in auditing and revising security allocations highlights its commitment to adapting protection measures in accordance with current roles and threats.
