Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has alleged that the BJP-led central government is attempting to reintroduce the previously repealed farm laws as a new “policy” through indirect means. Kejriwal expressed these concerns in a post on social media platform X, where he criticized the government’s lack of dialogue with farmers, especially those currently protesting in Punjab.
According to Kejriwal, farmers have been staging indefinite hunger strikes for several days, advocating for the same demands that were purportedly agreed upon by the central government three years ago but remain unfulfilled. He accused the BJP government of reneging on its promises and displaying arrogance by refusing to engage in discussions with the farmers, whom he described as “the farmers of our own country.”
Kejriwal warned that the farmers’ health and safety are at risk, highlighting the potential consequences if their demands continue to be ignored. He assured farmers nationwide that while the controversial laws were repealed due to earlier protests, the government is now quietly working to reintroduce them under the guise of new policies.
Kejriwal claimed that a draft of this proposed policy has already been circulated to all states to solicit their feedback, emphasizing the covert nature of the government’s actions. This development, according to him, places the onus of any harm to the protesting farmers on the shoulders of the BJP government.
The AAP leader’s allegations come amid an ongoing backdrop of dissatisfaction among farmers, particularly in Punjab, who are demanding accountability and action from the government regarding the previously settled issues. Kejriwal’s statements aim to bring attention to the farmers’ cause and urge the central government to reconsider its approach toward agricultural policies and farmer engagement.
