Breaking News: Assam Triumphantly Elevates Senior IAS Officer Varnali Deka and Two Others to Prestigious Super Time Scale
The Assam government has elevated three senior IAS officers to the Super Time Scale in a move that underscores the caliber and contributions of its top bureaucrats. Leading this trio is Varnali Deka, who is celebrated for her exemplary public service across local, national, and international levels. Deka will continue her role as the District Commissioner of Nalbari while benefiting from a notable pay upgrade to Level 14, positioning her salary between Rs 1,44,200 and Rs 2,18,200. Her promotion is particularly noteworthy given her recognition as one of India’s most decorated civil servants.
Alongside Deka, the government’s promotion order, signed by Personnel Department Secretary Monita Borgohain, also advances two other distinguished 2009-batch IAS officers. Biswajit Pegu ascends to the role of Commissioner & Secretary of the Home & Political Department, amplifying his responsibilities from his previous position as Secretary. This advancement highlights his growing influence and expanding role within the State’s administrative framework.
In addition, JV Naga Subramanyam, who is currently serving on a central deputation, has received a proforma promotion, aligning his salary scale with the recently promoted peers. This managerial elevation further signifies his contributions and potential within the central bureaucratic structure.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, sanctioned these promotions through a concurrence letter dated December 17, 2024, with all changes officially taking effect from January 1, 2025. This strategic step by the Assam government not only rewards the officers’ past performances but also reinforces their future potential in shaping the state’s administrative and political landscape.
